Contemporary Bathrooms
In recent times, it has become more and more popular to design houses to be more contemporary, and that means designing contemporary bathrooms. Designing bathrooms that are contemporary can be tricky as bathrooms need to have plenty of storage space, but most people look at contemporary bathrooms as being simplistic without a lot of bathroom storage cabinets.
Contemporary Bathroom Fittings
When designing contemporary bathrooms, the easy part is picking out the bathroom fittings. It is easy to find faucets, bathtubs, shower units, towel bars, toilets and so on that are very contemporary. These fittings are usually found made from basic, solid colors with chrome or brush nickels finishes.
Just remember that the overall design of your bathroom fittings should be consistent with your bathroom and home design. Your bathrooms should feel like an extension of your home, not totally separate areas. Many people like the idea of contemporary bathrooms and want to remodel their bathrooms to make them more modern, but the rest of their house is traditionally designed. If this is the case, it is not smart to go ahead and redesign your bathrooms to be contemporary. Stick with the overall design of your home when making design decisions.
Contemporary Bathroom Cabinets
The much harder part of designing contemporary bathrooms is to select bathroom storage cabinets that store all of your bath towels, toiletries, bed lines and etc., while at the same time giving the modern look that you want.
The cabinets that almost every bathroom will utilize are bathroom floor cabinets, which hold the sink and provide countertop space for getting ready. One way that you can use these bathroom floor cabinets while keeping your modern bathroom from feeling cluttered and bulky is to use storage cabinets with doors that are suspended off the floor. These cabinets hang directly on the wall, and give the feeling that they are floating. These types of bathroom storage cabinets will really give you a clean, contemporary look, while also providing the much needed storage space that you need in a bathroom.
If you don't have the space for extra cabinets or simply don't want to add cabinets to your bathroom, you could choose to add some simple bathroom wall shelves to your bathroom for extra storage. The two best areas for installing these bathroom wall shelves are above your toilet or bathtub. These locations are the areas that will be out of the way, and they are also areas that add additional design value to your bathroom.
As you can see, just because contemporary bathrooms are simplistic, it doesn't mean that they are easy to design. In reality, they are must harder to design as you have to stuff a lot more stuff into smaller spaces, but if you take a little time and plan out your overall design, you can design a beautiful contemporary bathroom that you will enjoy for years to come.
